Animal Caregiver
 

We are looking for an additional dedicated and compassionate individual who can perform the physically demanding and emotionally intense job of caring for pigs and other farmed animals who reside at Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Possesses the ability to work with animals.

• Remains calm in strenuous or stressful circumstances.

• Works in all temperatures and weather conditions.

• Possesses excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.

• Works independently as well as with staff members and volunteers.

• Uses sound judgement, problem solving skills, and decision making to complete tasks as required during each shift, prioritizing health and safety.
   

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Feeds animals according to feeding instructions and established schedules.

• Changes water and cleans water troughs.

• Cleans Sanctuary and Barn and performs maintenance.

• Cleans and disinfects medical and feed equipment.

• Administers medicine, healthcare treatments and therapies as directed.

• Observes animals to identify signs of injury, illness, or disease.

• Coordinates and communicates with Veterinary care provider.

• Maintains accurate records of information such as weight, physical condition, diet, feeding schedule, and medications given.

• Unloads and stores feed and supplies.

• Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned.
   

Education and Experience:

• Prior animal care experience as either a volunteer or paid staff member.

• Prior pig care experience is preferred.
   

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform the physical duties of the job.

• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds at a time.

Starting Salary: $15/hour.
